FBI lab problems affected 3,000 cases
The NYT is reporting that problems at the FBI lab may affect 3,000 cases. Sadly, they aren't doing the right thing:
More than six years after the FBI crime laboratory was rocked by controversy, the Justice Department has identified about 3,000 criminal cases that could have been affected by flawed science and skewed testimony.
It is letting prosecutors decide whether to tell defendants about the problems.
Somehow I doubt that they're going to be rushing to spread the news, but I'd like to be proven wrong - it's certainly a golden opportunity to redeem a little of their reputation.
