Apple-branded X11

There was also a stealth launch of an Apple-maintained XFree86 package. As you might expect, it's the most Mac-like of the bunch. Hardware OpenGL is here and quite nice - it's really funny seeing glxgears kicking along at 80fps using a whopping 6% of the CPU after so many years of slow software GL on slow processors. Interestingly, if I move a partially transparent terminal window over the gears, they kick into turbo - 200+fps - just as if the window was completely occluded - there must be some odd QuartzExtreme interaction going on since the entire image is clearly visible even at 80% opacity.
